You’re not a photographer, you’re a visual artist

One could argue that the image quality from any camera from the past decade will always be more than good enough - but is it really? In a world full of instant gratification and a rapidly increasing photography industry its no wonder professional photographers are getting burned out and we are seeing more and more under skilled amateur photographers charging session pricing as low as 45 dollars!

Lets be honest the photography theses days looks like you probably got the session for free. With cameras readily available to everyone its easy to snap a photo. What we need to really be asking ourselves is at one point to we invest in a professional photographer. Is it for A wedding only, Maybe its for a sweet 16 party..... We as humans will invest in what we have an emotional attachment to. People Buy YOU not your Photography.

Photography is something I have had a passion for since I was 8 years old, as the years pass client after client always seems to find a way to devalue the actual art work at hand. My favorite comment is always "wow your camera takes nice pictures. " I always laugh and cringe at the same time to this comment. That's like telling a book author that his type writer wrote a nice book.... like wait what..... it hurts my soul to see so many people devalue the work of a true professional photographer. These same people are the ones who show up to my sessions dressed head to toe in designer fashions but can't poney up the money for a professional quality portrait to remember the day by. The Shoes will get worn, your hair style will change. Your clothing will shrink..... The real value of the session is the memories and yet this is what is viewed as less value.

I consider Myself more of a director than a photographer because I specializes in getting my subjects to show their personality on camera and uncovering, the psychological principles behind photography.

In the competitive photography industry, it's essential to always stay current on news, gear, and trends in the industry. Being a successful photographer means that you can tell a thoughtful story through an image, and with my help you can become a better visual storyteller. Don’t limit yourself to one type of photography. Shoot anything and everything. Better to have fun making photos, than to strive to make ‘good’ ones. Consider photography and breathing is the same. Do you force yourself to breathe? No. Then why force yourself to shoot?

If you want more motivation and inspiration in your photography, the money you invest into photography books and education is 1000x more effective than buying a new camera.) To re-inspire your passion for photography, delete Instagram. Start your own blog. –Recognize that photography is essential in society. Street photography is essentially just applied sociology — visual sociology. The color green is the color of life. The color red is the color of blood. Both colors are possibly the most powerful.

Don’t limit yourself to only monochrome or color; do both. You’re not a photographer, you’re a visual artist indulge all of your different passions in photography. When you got nobody else to photograph, photograph yourself. Don’t photograph others who don’t want to be photographed, but also photograph others how YOU would like to be photographed. No such thing as a good or bad photo; only authentic or inauthentic.

Nowadays everything is a camera! Your car backup camera, your door bell camera, your video camera, your phone is a camera. The goal ain’t to become the best photographer. The goal is to have the motivation and inspiration to never stop your passion. Websites are the future galleries of the internet. If you don't have one please invest in yourself and make this a priority,

Your goal — strive to become the best photographer you possibly can! Social media is bad for photographers photography ain’t a competition. Recognize you don’t gotta share all the photos you shoot. Just shoot some photos for yourself; for selfish reasons. Selfish isn’t evil. The best photographer is very selfish. Details are overrated in photography. In praise of high contrast Whenever it comes to photography or anything in life, always ask yourself ‘WHY?‘ To better learn composition, study art fields OUTSIDE of photography. Learn from the masters of photography, You must become a master, not just a follower. Every photo you make is a self-portrait of yourself.
